Why does Robert Ciervo want to represent us in Harrisburg? I was reminded of
a blog post on the Council Rock Class of 1986 website during his supervisor
campaign in 2007. Ciervo is quoted as saying:
"Right now the (Newtown Township Board of Supervisors) does not even have
anyone on it who is (originally) from Bucks County let alone from Newtown and my
two opponents are from Northeast Philadelphia. So when you come back to visit
and you see all the changes in the area it is mostly due to the fact that
out-of-towners have been in control of our local government for quite some time
now... I can't sit back any longer and watch people from Philadelphia continue
to try to ruin Newtown."
Aside from at least two inaccuracies in the blog post, I will address the
premise.
Apparently unless you were born and bred in Newtown, you're a second-class
citizen in the eyes of Ciervo. That would include over 50 percent of us who have
moved into Bucks County from elsewhere in the last 10 years. It's also strange
considering that Ciervo has spent a good portion of his life outside of our
community.
With a quick search I found he spent time living in New Jersey, Delaware
County, and in Philadelphia. He was even active in Philadelphia politics when he
lived there. In fact, he only registered to vote in Newtown in 2005.
I try to make no judgments about people's background. However, with all his
apparent and needless animosity toward those of us who chose to make Newtown our
home, why would we want to elect him to represent us in Harrisburg?
