With a 3 p.m. ribbon cutting on Thursday, July 15, the Dolington Road bridge over I-95 in Lower Makefield Township was
reopened to traffic.
That portion of Dolington Road had been closed since early June, as PennDOT workers repaired the worn-out bridge. State
Rep. Steve Santarsiero (D-31) asked the department to move the project up on its priority list for the safety of the 5,100 cars
that drive over the bridge each day.
“We heard from a lot of residents, complaining about how bad the road was, so we asked PennDOT to move it forward,” said
Santarsiero. “We are thankful that not only did they move it up the list, they completed the project in a timely manner.”
State Sen. Chuck McIlhinney (R-10) was on hand for the ribbon cutting, and said how pleased he was for the project to be
completed.
“Any time you see this type of progress on the roads in Pennsylvania, it is a good thing,” said McIlhinney. “Thankfully, it is one
less project on the list of necessary road improvements.”
Among the residents asking for the repairs was Mark Patterson, who lives in Longshore Estates. Santarsiero said that Patterson
was the first resident to put the project on his radar.
“I drove this road every day, and good chunks of the bridge were missing,” said Patterson. “I had taken pictures and it was
actually down to the rebar. We had to go on the shoulder to avoid the holes and people were leaving pieces of their bumpers
on the side of the bridge.”
The $250,000 bridge deck resurfacing and substructure repair project was completed as part of the $4.3 million I-95
improvement plan.
“The safety of Bucks County drivers and the thousands of commuters who pass through here each day is priority number one,”
said Santarsiero. “Improvements and upgrades, like these made on the Dolington Road bridge, will keep our roads and bridges
up-to-date and in the safest possible condition for those who rely on them.”
